A man who was tied up and beaten during a vicious attack that ended with one of his assailants murdering the other has been awarded more than $30,000 compensation by a Brisbane court.
Michael William Weir, 63, was granted $31,500 in the Brisbane Supreme Court for personal and psychological injuries sustained during the attack at the old Bullens’ Lion Park at Yatala, south of Brisbane, on September 11, 1997.
Mr Weir was subjected to threats and beatings for several hours by Tony Robert Stevens and Darren Michael Golledge.
He was lured to Stevens’ house and king-hit to the ground before being blindfolded, beaten and threatened with a shotgun.
Golledge was convicted in September last year of shooting Stevens during the attack on Mr Weir.
Golledge, who was named as a serious violent offender, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Justice John Byrne, who presided over the trial, awarded Mr Weir compensation for physical and “severe psychiatric injury”.
Mr Weir was not present in court during the compensation hearing.
